Hand / Wrist
Wrist Sprains typically occur after a fall on an outstretched hand and stretches or tears the ligaments of the wrist. The symptoms are usually pain, swelling, and tenderness around the wrist after a fall.
Scaphoid Fracture of the Wrist can occur after a fall on an outstretched hand. The scaphoid is a small bone in the wrist located below the thumb. These need immediate treatment to avoid serious complications.
Tendinitis of the Wrist (De Quervain's Tsnosynovitis) is an irritation or swelling that surrounds the tendon of the thumb. The patient may experience pain in front of the wrist and/or pain when grasping something with the fingers. Tendinitis can be caused by an arm injury or improper technique in keyboarding or sports.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is an irritation of the membranes that surround the tendons in the wrist which results in pressure on a nerve. A patient may experience numbness/tingling in the hands and/or decreased sensation in the fingers. Some common causes include repetitive bending of the wrist, repetitive grasping with the hands, and overuse.
Finger Fracture is considered a minor trauma, but without proper treatment it could result in major problems. When a bone in the finger is fractured, it can cause improper alignment of the entire hand. Without treatment a fractured finger can remain painful and stiff for a long time.
