HEARING LOSS
Occupational Hearing Loss (also known as Occupational Induced Noise Hearing Loss or Workplace Hearing Loss) is the loss of hearing due to constant exposure to high levels of noise in the workplace. Most workers who receive this type of injury work in plants and industrial facilities or factories. Workplace hearing loss is preventable, however once it occurs it is irreversible. Like other types of hearing loss, the damage is gradual and not easily recognizable by the victim. Many may confuse this type of hearing loss with the natural aging process. However, this assumption is dangerous, especially if an individual continues to work in a noisy industrial environment without taking precautions.
Occupational Induced Hearing Loss is a concern to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The increasing knowledge of this preventable hearing injury has lead to a federal mandate of standards for plants and industrial facilities located in the United States to prevent, reduce, warn, and monitor noise exposure of its workers.
It is an employer=s responsibility to adequately protect its employees from hazards in the workplace. If you are at least 45 years of age with 5 or more years of work at any local refinery or industrial facility, and have regular exposure to high levels of workplace noise, call Murphy Law Firm for a hearing screening.
